The Friday 56 (#15)

Rules:The Friday 56
*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader
(If you have to improvise, that’s ok.)
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don’t spoil it) that grab you.
*Post it.
*Add your (url) post below in Linky. Add the post url, not your blog url. It’s that simple.

The Friday 56 is a weekly meme hosted by Freda’s Voice where I’ll post a sentence of two from page 56 of either the book I’m currently reading or a random book from my shelf. If you would also like to participate, click the link to the host’s blog page.

Big World – by Mary Miller

“I put my sandwich in a baggie and stick it in the refrigerator behind the gallon of milk so my father won’t see it. Then I do my bedtime rituals same as I always do them and get in bed. I close my eyes but just lie there and think and then I get up and roam around the house. I move from window to window, looking out, until my eyes start to make things up. I’m quiet even though there’s no reason for it – my father can sleep through anything – but I keep waiting for him to stumble out of his bedroom in his underwear with his gun cocked, how I’d stand there calmly and say don’t shoot after pausing a few beats too long.”
