Thoughtful Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Reading Is Fun Again where I’ll answer whatever bookish question is thrown at me. If you would also like to participate, find out the rules by clicking here.
This Week’s Question:
Is there a magic number for the number of books in a series for you? Will you only read series with four or less books in a completed series? Do you prefer long series (10+ books)? Does the number of books in a series matter?
I usually don’t read completed series with more than four or five books unless they come very highly recommended. Unfortunately, I rarely ever start a series when it is already completed. Take my currently favorite series, Mercy Thompson, for example. I began it when only the first two books were published. Now there is a total of eight books and counting. On one hand, I am ecstatic that I’m getting more of the wondrous world Patricia Briggs has created for us. But on the other hand, I’m one of those people that have to reread books 1 through 8 before even thinking about touching book 9. That’s just so tiring, and I wish the series would finish up already so that I can proudly show of the completed Mercy Thompson collection on my bookshelf.
